The latest group of little boxes, starting with walnut logs I salvaged from a tree taken down in the neighborhood years ago. Most of the things I make are very small so I expect this cord of wood to last for many years.
I start by slicing the rounds into panels and then slicing those into long square strips. After running through the planer, they're cut into individual sections to make into boxes. I add contrasting end pieces of mahogany, teak, cherry, or maple to add a little interest and drill for the magnets that hold the two halves together. After sanding each gets several light coats of clear satin finish and small strips of black foam inside to secure whatever jewelry will go inside. The foam is removable and you can use it to hold a ring in place, or take it out to make room for a necklace, earrings, or charms.
These tiny boxes can be found on my Etsy shop - check out the widget on the left to link to the listings for sale.
